Early Learning Stage

My journey into the digital world began with a general interest in all things computer related. I began coding as a hobby in Visual Basic and C++ at the age of 12 using ‘SAMS Teach Yourself’ books. My first project was to create a simple database in VB that could store customer related data. I sold the software to several health clinics across Kampala. Fast forward a few years later when the online world was growing exponentially, so was the need to understand the mechanisms of how websites function. I figured I could look at the source code of sites and try and understand how each line of code relates to the front-end design. Along with a few online tutorials and constantly scanning through the open source of web code, I managed to have a working understanding of HTML. However to complete the entire design and development process I needed to learn how to design the elements of the front facing web. Once again, through online tutorials, book and a lot fo trial and error, I managed to grasp a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver.

Freelancing Stage

Now equipped with the tools and knowledge to create dynamic sites, I launched a site offering my services as a freelancer to SME’s across London and Dubai. Understanding client needs led to the next stage in product offerings which was SEO and social media strategies. At the same time I saw an opportunity to launch an e-commerce site selling chic eyewear with a sustainable edge. After designing the range I flew over to Guangzhou, China where I spent 6 months working alongside manufacturers to create the product line. Before the launch I partnered with optical clinics across East Africa to develop a CSR partnership for Blink Bridge to fund eye camps in rural villages. The success of Blink Bridge, attributed partially to the digital campaigns and UX styled site, developed into an idea to create a digital agency.

Sway was designed to be a powerhouse of innovation. At the time, most agencies were focused solely on design and digital campaigns with little attention paid to consumer retention through digital analysis and A.I integration. Sway portfolio consists of well known brands such as Nokia, Atlantis, Nike, CNN Arabia and more. After 3 successful years of running Sway, I felt a strong calling towards the financial industry. I wanted to create a better world through impact investments and SRI.
